Equality & Diversity

PEBA is committed to the principle of equality of opportunity without discrimination on grounds of colour, race, disability, age, nationality, ethnic or national origins, religion/belief, sex, pregnancy, maternity, marital/civil partnership status, sexual orientation or political persuasion.

PEBA is committed in all its activities to treating everyone equally and fairly and with respect regardless of their personal characteristics, and to promoting equality and diversity across its members, and the Bar in general, including by promoting access to the Bar.

On the election of its first Equality and Diversity Officer (Melissa Murphy K.C.) it has resolved to promote equality and diversity among its membership via an “action plan” approach, focusing on practical measures aimed at promoting access to the profession, retention and career progression among groups presently under-represented at the Planning and Environmental law Bar in general and in its senior practitioners in particular.

PEBA’s work in this field is underpinned by its adopted equality and diversity policy.
