Annual Nomination Period for Election of Masters of the Bench of The Inner Temple: 31 March – 5pm, 28 April 2023

Inner Temple have announced that their annual nominations and applications period for election of The Inner Temple’s new Masters of the Bench in 2023 is now open. They would like to encourage members of The Inner Temple to consider applying to become a Governing Bencher.

Governing Benchers are members who have been called to the Bar by the Inn – practising barristers, judges or other professionals – who have been elected to assist with governance and carrying out the Inn’s activities and functions.

The Inn’s primary functions are as a:

collegiate educational establishment – organising a vast annual programme of first-class education and training in advocacy and other professional skills for its students, pupils, and new practitioners and of high quality continuing professional development for its more experienced barrister members. In addition, the Inn organises networking and social events for members at all stages of their professional careers and beyond, hosts a world-class law Library, provides membership services and exercises regulatory duties in respect of admissions, Call to the Bar and conduct and discipline;
a property company – with an estate providing professional premises to barristers and residential accommodation;
a commercial events organisation and;
a promoter of the Bar and rule of law nationally and internationally.

The Inn needs a sizeable pool of Governing Benchers who are committed to playing a part in the planning and delivery of all these areas and who are reflective of our diverse membership.

Guidance on eligibility, procedure and selection criteria for applications is available on the Inn’s website.
